Dancing Brush

We had a gift card to Dancing Brush that we needed to use up and so we made a special visit to have some fun. Have you heard of Dancing Brush? It's an amazing place to visit when you are feeling like being an artist or to spend some right-brain time with your friends and family. We have had a few different experiences with Dancing Brush and with every visit we leave wanting to hurry back! 

Dancing Brush is located in Poulsbo. Pretty convenient for us! There is another location in Ballard. The space itself is huge, very open and inviting. So many colors and things to look at. When you walk in you are instantly invited in by the girls that work there. Super friendly and laid back. The first step is to choose from the collection of plates, mugs, bowls, and special pottery pieces. It's great because you can find things as cheap as $8 all the way up to $30. All depending on what you decide to paint. 

You get to choose where ever you'd like to sit. There are many tables to pick from, some smaller tables or longer ones if you end up coming with a group of friends! Each table is already set up for you to begin, with paints, brushes, a bowl of water, a sponge and a place mat. You don't even have to fill the bowl up with fresh water! It's all there. 

Once you've chosen the pottery piece you want, you start painting! It's so fun. There's a little ceramic tile with dots on it for you to squeeze out dime sizes of the your chosen paints. It allows kids to stay neat and to be able to stick with just enough colors rather than getting too carried away with all of the selection. This visit Sebastian picked out a Wolverine piggy bank that he's had his eye on since the last time we were in. 

There's tools at your disposal. Things like stamps, templates, screen prints, and glaze colors. You can even walk around the space to check out other peoples art work to get inspiration from. The girls who work there just hang out doing their thing and only really assist if needed. We love that about it because whenever we go it feels like it's our little art studio that we have all to ourselves. There's good music playing with other families gathered around the tables.

Sebastian had a blast painting Wolverine! He wanted to make sure that he was painted as close to the real thing so we ended up looking up photos of him on my phone to replicate the right colors. Once we were done, we gave Wolverine to one of the girls who then took it to the back where they will apply a clear glaze on it and then put it in a kiln to be fired. It usually takes about a week for the process and they just give you a call when it's all done to get picked up.

With life being as busy as it is we typically always forget so it's nice to get that call to remind us and because we do forget it's fun to go pick it up and see the reveal of the finished product.

I plan to go back one last time to make something for myself. A mug I think! I'll post an update once we pick up Wolverine to show you all how it turned out. It will be nice to visit Dancing Brush whenever we are back in downtown Poulsbo once we move! I recommend you visit it too. Fantastic way to use your right-brain, be creative and artistic and take home something that you made yourself!

point no point beach day...

We had our first beach day of this summer season. One of my friends at school grow up around where we live. I asked her about different areas that we could visit and Point No Point Beach was on the list. It's about twenty minutes away from our house and we were pleasantly surprised by how much of a beach it really was! Warm sand with beach wood scattered around. We packed some chairs and a picnic, found the perfect spot and soaked up the sun. Sebastian has an abnormally high tolerance for the cold water and he had no problem with running in and out of it.  

 Best part about this beach is because it's so popular Sebastian found tons of friends to play with! I think we will be coming back!

port gamble in photos...

Yesterday we took a day trip to Port Gamble. It's a sweet fancy little town with a wonderful strip of shops to browse. It was quite a rainy day but we kept an eye on the clouds and once they broke we all jumped into the car and drove. Port Gamble is really only fifteen minutes away from us so we got there quick giving us extra time outside before the rain started again. The Historic Museum is interesting and the boys loved seeing all the different artifacts. My favorite part of our trip was the General Store within the town. It's AMAZING. So much to see, from whimsical decor, to a lovely coffee shop inside, there's even a little restaurant along side the General Store that was remodeled this past winter. However, the best part of the store was that it had a fascinating marine museum full of fossils and skeletons of so many marine animals. We spend the most time walking around seeing all that was displayed on the second floor of the store. 

Everything was so eye-catching in this little store. It's amazing how much they had displayed in such small space and in a very artistic way. It made me giddy walking about see all unique things. I'll be coming back to buy this beautiful old-school tea pot turned light fixture for our future home. I must have it in my kitchen! Even the way the candy was set out was fun! It reminded me of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory when he goes into the candy store to buy his candy bar. Everything in gigantic glass jars and the old fashion registered tied it all together. 

If you ever spend the day on our side of the water take a quick drive to Port Gamble even if all you do is go to the General Store. It's so worth it! Bobby and I plan to come back on our next date night to try out the restaurant.

nomadic tipi's and snoqualmie falls...

Our weekend was a success! Such a beautiful place. Bobby picked me up after school on Saturday and from there we headed to North Bend to the Log Cabin Bed & Breakfast
where we reserved a majestic tipi that's nestled next to the Snoqualmie River. 

We drove down a long gravel road to get to the main house, a log cabin, where we were anxiously awaited by the family who owns the bed & breakfast. They were just as excited for us to be there as we were and apparently we were the first tipi reservation of the season. We were handed a welcome basket full of coffee, water bottles, hot chocolate and other small necessities. From there on we were pretty much on our own to make ourselves at home. We were okay with that! 

Our tipi was the red one that sat first on the property and the one I was praying for! Beside our tipi was a picnic bench set up to be our little kitchen area complete with a stove/oven and all the pot & pans we needed for cooking. The fire pit was between our tipi and the river so we faced our camping chairs so that we were looking out onto the flowing clear blue water. Firewood was at our disposal with axes laid out for us to us. Bobby enjoyed pretending to be a lumberjack, chopping away at the logs. Our first night we spent sitting by the fire and enjoying the soothing sounds of nature and even played a game of Scrabble. 

The inside of our tipi was simple which made it so peaceful to be in. Inside was a full sized log bed, handmade by the gentleman who owns the bed & breakfast, a table and another fire pit! That's right we were able to have a rolling fire to warm us during the night while we slept. In case you're wondering the top of the tipi open just enough to make it so that we could have a fire yet keep the rain out just enough. I loved it! We were a little smoked by the end of the weekend and our things had a slight layer of ash on them but it was part of the experience and I really wouldn't of changed it for anything. Having a blazing fire as we snuggled in bed put us right to sleep and we both slept like babies. 

Sunday morning we woke up early, well, I woke up early to make breakfast and make a cup of coffee in my french press and as soon as our tummies were full we heading up to Snoqualmie Falls. Snoqualmie Falls is dear to our hearts since it was the place we said "I Do". At the time of our wedding the trails were closed down due to renovations so were weren't able to climb to the bottom of the falls. Since then it has reopened and we wanted to make a point to adventure down to the bottom of the falls. It was a beautiful little hike. 

It was an amazing weekend and we highly recommend the bed & breakfast to anyone who is looking for a tranquil experience. They offer actual log cabins as well as big tents. The tipi's are fun and I hope to do it again but maybe bring Sebastian along!
